Startup of the Week:
Ripple sends cows on vacation
If you spot any cows vacationing this summer, blame Ripple, a fast-growing FoodTech company that produces great-tasting, nutritious alternatives to milk, shakes and ice cream. As concerns grow about the sustainability of dairy farming and the impact on health and climate of dairy products, consumers are switching in large numbers to plant-based milk alternatives. Ripple foods are based on exclusive and proprietary yellow pea protein isolate that have the look, feel, and taste of real dairy. They are sold in branches of Target, Whole Foods, Walmart and nearly 20,000 retail stores across the US. The company’s net revenue grew in 2021 despite supply-chain disruptions during the Covid-19 pandemic, with sales growing several times faster than the industry average across all categories. OurCrowd has secured an up to $5M allocation in the company’s new funding round, an up to $25M SAFE, at a 20% discount..

3d Signals: Bringing the world’s factories online
While many industries are harnessing the power of advanced technology, physical production is lagging behind. More than 90% of the world’s 64 million manufacturing machines are pre-digital, which means that even if they are automated, they can’t communicate with other devices or share much of their data, writes Amy Teibel in the Times of Israel. Our portfolio company 3d Signals connects these machines to a cloud-based, AI-powered platform in a matter of hours. “We’re giving manufacturers a simple way to quickly increase their productivity, reduce their operational costs and CO2 emissions,” says CEO Ariel Rosenfeld. “We are delivering smart manufacturing for a better world.’’ The company is operating in a field with no major competition, and has an existing client base of over 20 customers in the automotive, energy and production industries. 3d Signals is currently funding on the OurCrowd platform.
SoftBank: OurCrowd Summit moves the needle
SoftBank commends the OurCrowd Summit as an outstanding way to generate deal flow. SoftBank asked Vision 2 Fund companies to share their top marketing investment. Our Global Investor Summit, which has been on hiatus for the past two and a half years due to the pandemic, returns on February 15th, 2023. We expect some 30,000 people to register, generating about 1,000 business meetings, of which 10% will likely convert into investments and other deals. SoftBank Vision Fund 2 invested $25M in OurCrowd in October 2021.
OurCrowd hosts Jain angel investor delegation
OurCrowd hosted a 90-strong delegation of angel investors from India’s JITO Investor Forum in Tel Aviv this week. Jain International Trade Organization (JITO) is a worldwide organization of businessmen, industrialists, knowledge workers and professionals dedicated to ethical business practices. The delegates heard from executives of our portfolio companies BetterSeeds, Consumer Physics, Largix, ThetaRay and 3dSignals, all dedicated to improving the quality of life in their respective sectors.
Israeli tech gets planes flying on time
This summer sees the return to full-on vacationing for the first time in three years. Millions of passengers are already packing airports and many are frustrated by delays and cancellations as the airline industry struggles to bounce back from pandemic-triggered shutdowns and closures. Enter Israeli innovation, writes Candice Krieger in the UK Jewish News, focusing on three standout OurCrowd portfolio companies, IntellAct, CorrActions and SeeTrue, all trying to get the travel industry off the ground. IntellAct, now funding on the OurCrowd platform, tackles the heart of the problem in many cases of aircraft delays – turnaround time. Its AI-powered platform uses existing airport video feeds to identify bottlenecks in real time and streamline the process of turning around a passenger plane which requires as many as 360 separate tasks.
Payoneer endorses ThetaRay transaction monitoring
Earlier this year, FinTech giant Payoneer (Nasdaq: PAYO) picked our portfolio company ThetaRay to help keep track of its users’ global cross-border payments, monitoring millions of transactions every year. “We looked a lot at everyone’s machine learning and how it works, but we were super impressed when we went through our proof of concept with ThetaRay,” says Micheal Sheehy, Payoneer’s Chief Compliance Officer. “My compliance department needs to be agile and quick to respond.” Payoneer operates in over 190 countries and territories and has more than 5 million customers worldwide. OurCrowd is currently raising funds for ThetaRay.
Axie Infinity funds 200 NAS Academy fellowships
Popular blockchain game platform Axie Infinity is offering 200 fellowships at Nas Academy, the online education platform created by internet superstar Nuseir Yassin of Nas Daily, BSC News reports. Nas Academy, currently funding on the OurCrowd platform, designed a three-month course, with a two-month mentorship, specifically for the Axie Infinity community. The curriculum includes instruction on generating exciting content ideas, writing engaging scripts, smartphone filming, end-to-end mobile video editing, social media postings, and content strategies.
SaNOtize CEO: From sommelier to scientist
SaNOtize CEO and Co-Founder Gilly Regev has come a long way to lead a MedTech company. While studying for her PhD in biochemistry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, she worked as a sommelier, PharmaVoice reports. Regev says the two fields have a lot in common. “It’s all about strong science … [and] asking the right questions and showing that the data is there,” she says. “There is a lot of strong science behind wine making. Same as there’s a lot of strong science behind how nitric oxide can treat infections. So as long as you know to ask the right questions you will get to the answer.” Her company SaNOtize produces an anti-viral nasal spray which kills the coronavirus and is now being used around the world as a preventative measure to protect against Covid-19 and reduce transmission. SaNOtize is currently funding on the OurCrowd platform.
